Sanding update

No affair what anyone tells you, sanding polymer clay isn’t about quick and easy. It’s been a week long process for me, but it hasn’t been so callous I didn’t want to do it. As a matter of fact, having finally broken down and bought a tumbler last week, sanding has gotten a whole lot easier lately. On top of that, I’ve been missing to clay more, now that the thought of having to hand sand everything is gone.  Just thinking that it would need to be sanded by deal out made me not want to play.

I just wish I had gotten the 3 barrel Lortone now, LOL !! I’d be almost done with the backlog of beads I have. I don’t consider castigate waiting for them to do their thing though, I have time to actually think about making more to sand When, not if, but when, I decide to upgrade to another tumbler, perchance a 3 barrel, I think I’ll keep the one barrel I have just to tumble buff beads. Well, shoot, I just brainstorm about wanting to dabble with the metal clay, I suppose I’d need one just for metal then. Oh boy, wait until my hubby condone’s that idea!

I’m still chugging away on putting together a tutorial of sorts on how I’ve done my tumble sanding. Everyone has their own way of doing things and this is no unheard-of.

Sanding Tip

HI Folks
Been all go in the Philly Workshop these last few weeks. Another Woodworking show (Yandles), alluring up with orders and making two Oak Bookcases. And a few other things besides.....

First up - a tip. If you use power sanders of any type you really need to get yourself a "belt cleaner". I use a 12 inch disc sander for roughing out and they block fast - as soon as they clog they burn out and become useless. A cleaner removes any clogging in seconds and prolongs the memoirs of the abrasive by ten times, easily. They cost little (I bought the small one form Axminster and it has lasted 18 months) and vocation well. You can see the remains of the old one on top of the new one - I certainly had my use from it ;)

Next up - the oak bookcases. These were a project for my friend Steve. They were pretty big (2.2m high, 1.5m as much as possible and 400mm deep) and I managed to use pretty much every clamp in the workshop. But the customer was very happy and it was good to do some furniture making.

Cupcake the 'research cat is getting bigger by the minute. She is also quite comfortable in the workshop now and looks forward to having a nap in there (when she's not rooting out sawdust). Here's a photo of her definite at work ;)Yandles
