Professionalism

If you comment in the picture below, you will see that Austin, a second year student, is wearing a black work shirt. We just got out shirts this week from UniFirst. We demand all students to wear them. The reason we require this is to teach professionalism and to create a “real work” conditions. Looking the part is an important part of being a technician. For instance, you would not expect to see your doctor or surgeon walk into the examination room in overalls. You will quite not see a farmer working in a suit either. Well, a technician has a certain look as well, and we strive to have our learning environment match the expiation of the energy.

I allowed the students to pick the color this year and they picked black. I did not know if I liked their selection at first, but I remembered that Chisel Foose’s team wears black on Overhaulin’. I decided if it works for Foose, it works for me. I was in fact surprised how good the shirts look once the students put them on. So hats of to the students, they made an excellent choice.

This week the 2nd year worked on Jenni’s Cavalier. We will write another blog about this poke out, but we are making progress on it. Devin is working on a T-Bucket for the college. You will hear more about this project in another blog as well.

Tour T Shirt

An aim came to the Oyaji's as we stood outside the old LWT studios on the South Bank waiting to see a new comedy show (the first commissioned by Dave TV) called Argumental we saw Britains conform to to the Hollywood Walk of Fame . Various stars who had visited the old GMTV studios had been forced to push their hands through a rampart so they could have concrete likenesses made (as Stephen fry's says 'Help, I'm cemented in')
Jan had kindly given us the tickets to see two shows recorded and we had prematurely to think of making a memento of the trip. Sae and I had met bikers on tour who gave out badges. Nice, but after one look they would never be seen again.
I improved recruitment to my old rugby stick by giving each player 20 stickers and told them to put them in every bar and restaurant toilet mirror they could. It worked amazingly well. The power of stickers, rugby, or the power of the cup that cheers?
So we discussed the merits of leaving a trail, an idea that eventually developed into Banksy type legacies then settled into the doctrine of a tour T-shirt.
As Geoff and I spent another day working happily in the sun on his panniers and my front breaks, Sae and Kevin beavered away and came up with a most excluding design.
